Engineers at the University of Colorado in Boulder have created
the first-ever animated image of an earthquake's seismic waves. Using coordinates from 1,000 GPS monitoring stations, the engineers created an image of the 8.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the coast of Hokkaido, Japan in September 2003. Each of the receivers took a measurement once every second, with accuracy within millimeters.
